Trauma Therapy in Leawood, Kansas

Gentle, body-aware care for experiences big and small.

Making room to heal

Trauma isn't only one defining event. It can come from a sudden loss, a frightening experience, a medical crisis, a childhood that didn't feel safe, or years of holding everything together on your own. Long after the moment has passed, it can linger as anxiety, numbness, irritability, restless sleep, or patterns in relationships that are hard to shift.

Our approach to trauma therapy is gentle and collaborative. We honor your unique experiences and move at a pace that respects your capacity, so healing can unfold without overwhelming you. Over time, this work often creates space for a steadier, more connected sense of self.

Who we work with

Trauma therapy may be supportive if you are:

  • Healing from a traumatic event, accident, assault, or loss

  • Carrying the effects of a home that felt chaotic, unpredictable, or emotionally unsafe

  • Feeling constantly on guard, easily startled, or quick to shut down

  • Living with anxiety, depression, or grief that feels stuck

  • Noticing painful patterns repeating in your relationships

  • Used to relying only on yourself, and finding it hard to receive support

How we approach trauma healing

We draw from several approaches and weave them together in a way that fits you:

  • Somatic Experiencing® — a body-oriented approach that helps the nervous system release stored stress and build resilience. [Link to SE page]

  • EMDR therapy — helps the brain reprocess distressing memories so they carry less weight. [Link to EMDR page]

  • Parts work and DBT skills — deepen self-understanding and offer practical tools for big emotions.

  • Collaborative counseling — a safe space to make sense of your story and gently shift patterns that no longer serve you.

What to expect

Our first sessions are a time to get to know you — what brings you in and what you hope might feel different. Before any deeper trauma work, we focus on building a sense of safety, stability, and coping tools. You decide what to share, and when.
