Somatic Experiencing Therapy in Leawood, Kansas
A gentle, body-oriented approach to healing trauma, shock, and stress.
Reconnecting with your body
You may understand your story well and still feel it in your body — a tightness that won't release, a sense of always being on alert, or a heaviness that rest doesn't quite reach. Trauma and long seasons of stress can leave us stuck in patterns that create feelings of disconnection, from ourselves and from others.
Somatic Experiencing® (SE) is a body-oriented approach to the healing of trauma, shock, and other stress-related disorders. Rather than focusing on thoughts alone, SE gently invites awareness of what is happening in the body and nervous system. Over time, this work can help us release what we've been holding, recover a sense of steadiness, and become more resilient.
Who we work with
Somatic sessions can be supportive if you are:
Healing from a traumatic event, accident, medical experience, or loss
Living with anxiety, overwhelm, or a constant sense of being on guard
Feeling numb, shut down, or disconnected from yourself
Running on empty after a long season of stress or burnout
Noticing patterns that feel hard to shift, even when you understand where they come from
Making sense of a difficult birth or postpartum experience
You don't need a clear "trauma story" to begin. Many people come to somatic work simply because something feels stuck.
What to expect
In session, we slow things down. Together, we gently get curious about sensations, movement, and emotions, taking them in small, manageable pieces. You set the pace, and there's no expectation to revisit painful memories in detail.
SE can be the focus of our work together or woven into ongoing counseling. As your nervous system finds more room to settle, change can unfold with intention, compassion, and care.
