EMDR Therapy in Leawood, Kansas
Gentle support for memories that still feel close.
When the past still feels present
Some experiences don't settle into the past the way others do. A sound, a place, or a tone of voice can bring them rushing back, and your body responds before your mind has a chance to catch up. You may know you're safe now, yet part of you still feels braced for what was.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a well-researched therapy that helps the brain reprocess distressing experiences. The memory remains, but it can lose some of its intensity, making room for a greater sense of calm and choice in the present.
Who we work with
EMDR may be supportive if you are:
Healing from a single traumatic event, such as an accident, assault, or medical emergency
Carrying painful childhood or relational experiences
Living with anxiety, panic, or specific fears
Moving through grief and loss that feels stuck
Holding onto beliefs like "I'm not enough" or "I'm not safe"
Making sense of a difficult birth or perinatal experience
Navigating performance pressure, perfectionism, or high standards you can't seem to set down
How EMDR works
During EMDR, you briefly bring a memory to mind while experiencing bilateral stimulation — guided eye movements, tapping, or tones. This helps your brain process the experience in a new way, without needing to describe every detail out loud.
At The Green Room, EMDR is integrated with somatic and nervous system approaches. We pay close attention to what's happening in your body and keep the work within a range that feels manageable, so change can unfold with intention, compassion, and care.
